Wanty-Groupe Gobert is out of the battle for the overall win in the Tour de Wallonie after just one day of racing after the team missed the decisive break in stage 1.
"I warned my riders that a break could go very quickly," sports director Jean-Marc Rossignon told Directvelo. "The wind was blowing hard at the top of the Cote Ben-Ahin. The boys were instructed to joined the break. As we missed the boat, we had to chase. The French teams Europcar, FDJ and Cofidis were in the same situation as us. After several kilometers further, the peloton did not get any closer. We stopped our effort and hoped that others would take the lead.
"I fear that the general classification is over. Etixx-QuickStep has the resources to control the race. Tomorrow, the weather will probably be more lenient and we will have little opportunity to surprise them. For us, our sprinters Jans and Napolitano are there. They finished tired but are ready for the normal conditions."
