Wanty-Groupe Gobert continue to build their roster for the 2015 season. Today they have announced the signing of two exciting talents and the contract extension for two veterans.
Simone Antonini and Boris Dron join Wanty-Groupe Gobert for 2015. James Vanlandschoot and Danilo Napolitano have extended their contracts with the Belgian procontinental team.
“In Antonini we get a young Italian within the team who has the possibility to progress and who has the ability to climb,” sports director Hilaire Van Der Schueren explains. “He won the Giro della Regione Friuli in September this year. That is a difficult stage race with a considerable amount of altitude metres.”
The past season Antonini was part of the Italian continental team Marchiol Emisfero. The 23-year old Italian sees his move to Wanty-Groupe Gobert as a chance to grow as a rider.
“I think this team is a great place for me to develop. It is one of the best procontinental teams. As a rider I am an allrounder. I can climb but also finished 12th at the Italian national time trial championships,” Antonini characterizes himself.
Boris Dron comes over from Wallonie-Bruxelles. The 26-year old rider from Belgian Luxembourg showed himself in the past three seasons with a second place in the GP Zottegem in 2013 and a sixth place in the overall of the Tour du Gévaudan this year.
“Dron is a rider who rides well from the beginning to the end of a season,” sports director Van Der Schueren says. “He is attacking a lot, is motivated and has plenty of room for improvement too.”
Sprinter Danilo Napolitano and allrounder James Vanlandschoot will represent the Wanty-Groupe Gobert colours in 2015 again. The 33-year old Italian and 36-year old Flemish rider extended their contracts with a year.
“After a year with lots of bad luck, I crashed heavily in the Amstel Gold Race and upon my comeback in the Tour of Denmark again, I am very happy to start my 15th year as a professional cyclist in 2015 with Wanty-Groupe Gobert,” Vanlandschoot commented.
