Wanty-Groupe Gobert wins this season the UCI Europe Tour - ranking. After a second place two years ago, the Belgian pro-continental team confirms its progression. With 3015 points Wanty-Groupe Gobert is the best European team of the year, a great satisfaction for team manager Jean-François Bourlart.
"We are pleased to see that our team continues to grow up. In 2016 we achieved 12 wins with seven different riders. One of those victories was the Amstel Gold Race. The Europe Tour is the icing on the cake. It was an exceptional season and we congratulate all the riders and staff for the regularity during the eight-month competition", he explains.
The team was also faced with the horrible news of Antoine Demoitié's tragic death.
"It took a lot of courage and strength, after the death of Antoine, to focus again on cycling. We will continue to ride the next seasons for Antoine, his wife Astrid and his family", sports director Hilaire Van der Schueren states.
The season 2016 is over, now towards 2017, an important year for Wanty-Groupe Gobert which wants to continue its momentum and to take part in its first Grand Tour.
"Some riders will leave for other teams, others will strengthen our roster but we will maintain the same familial atmosphere, solidarity and winning mentality", Jean-François Bourlart concludes.
