The Tour of Algarve ended this Sunday. Boris Dron finished his third race of the season for Wanty-Groupe Gobert with a respectable 30th place overall in a high-quality field.
The Walloon took part in the GP Marseillaise and the Etoile de Bessèges before. During the latter stage race, Roy Jans managed to win the second stage.
"It really motivated me to work for our sprinter in that race. I knew we could get a good result. That is a reward for the work that I did. It's really good to have a rider on the team who can win races.”
In the Tour of Algarve Dron had to work hard again.
“Yet again I did my job for Roy but I could also test myself in the individual time trial."
In that 19-kilometre race against the clock the rider finished 25th, at 1,17 from former world time trial champion Tony Martin.
“I had no point of reference at all because I barely touched the time trial bike since the junior categories. Despite that I did prepare well. The finall classification was not important but the difference with the winner's time was. I think I can be happy with this result."
The 26-year old will focus on the time trial more. "From now on I will work on my time trial skills. I do prefer longer time trials though. These prologue-style ones asked more raw power which is not my forte," he concludes.
