Alexander Wetterhall (Tre-Berg Bianchi) denied pre-race favourite Tobias Ludvigsson (Giant-Alpecin) a maiden Swedish TT title by taking his second win in the event seven years after his first triumph. Multiple champion Gustav Erik Larsson (ColoQuick) was third.
In 2009, Alexander Wetterhall took a first Swedish time trial title but since then he has had several near-misses. He was third in 2011 and 2012 and has finished second in the last two years.
Today he finally returned to the top step of the podium when he beat pre-race favourite Tobias Ludvigsson in dominant fashion. Covering the 50km course in Västeras in 1.03.24, he was a massive 1.14 faster than his rival who is still in search of his first win. Today's silver medal was his third in the last four years.
Gustav Erik Larsson whose was the reigning champion and has won the title on seven previous occasions, was 1.37 behind in third. It's the worst performance since he first took the win in 2006 as he has finished in the top 2 whenever he has been at the start since that maiden triumph.
The attention now turns to Sunday's road race where Alexander Gingsjö is the defending champion.
