Bradley Wiggins will have a busy schedule for his farewell tour on the road. The Flemish cycling fans will be able to watch him a number of times this spring. The Briton has decided to add E3, Three Days of De Panne and the Tour of Flanders to his program. A week later, he will stop his WorldTour career at Paris-Roubaix and he compares winning the cobbled classic to moonwalking.
Bradley Wiggins announced his spring schedule in an interview with Sporza. "I add E3, the Three Days of De Panne and the Tour of Flanders to my program." The Omloop Het Nieuwsblad and Paris-Roubaix were already on his schedule. "I won't do Milano-Sanremo.
"I have often raced in Flanders, because I love the mentality and attitude of the people in Flanders. I want to play my role in the team. It's not just about Bradley Wiggins preparing Paris-Roubaix, but also about the others in our team.
"Ian Stannard is the defending champion in Het Nieuwsblad and the other teammates also have goals. I want to be a good teammate and when it's my turn, my teammates can pay me back.
"Paris-Roubaix is such an unpredictable race. You start with 200 and in the end you are still a handful of riders. You must get through all the dirt and the cobbles to survive the massacre.
"In a time trial, you can plan everything while in Paris-Roubaix you may crash five times, lose minutes and still get back. That's the magic of that race. Actually, time trialling is pretty boring."
Bradley Wiggins uses Michael Jackson to describe his love for Paris-Roubaix. "I love Paris-Roubaix and wants to win. But I would also like to moonwalk.
"Sometimes you have to accept that you can not do everything. It can happen that I will never win in Roubaix, but I will try. Just as it is possible that I will never be able to moonwalk like Michael Jackson even if I start to take lessons."
