Even though Team Sky is yet to annonce their final Tour de France selection, Bradley Wiggins is more likely to star in the coming Commonwealth Games than appear one more time in the French grand tour event. More interestingly, British Cycling soach Shane Sutton hinted that the 34-year old rider might not only take part in the individual time trial, but return to track cycling much sooner than expected.

Wiggins made it clear in the beginning of the 2014 season that successfully competing on track during the 2016 Olympic Games held in Rio de Janeiro would be his main objective in the coming years, but it seemed that his promising appearances in the Paris-Roubaix and Tour of California have reinvigorated ambitions of the 34-year old Briton in regards to road cycling.  

However, the internal rivalry between Wiggins and Froome within Team Sky most likely won’t allow the former to participate in the Tour de France, and thus the 34-year old rider is welcome to appear both on road and track during the Commonwealth Games, held in Glasgow from July 23.

"At this moment in time, he is definitely down to ride the time trial. The chances are, if he misses out [on the Tour] we will slot him straight on to the boards because he has done a little bit of work. He's a natural, technically the most gifted track rider we have seen in years. We would welcome him back with open arms," Sutton told Sky Sports News.

Nothing will be decided before Team Sky announce their final Tour de France selection, though, what is expected to happen later this week.
