In the 109th edition of Paris-Tours, the escapees beat the sprinters after 231 kilometers. Due to tail- and cross-wind, a large and top-notch group of 30 riders formed already in the first kilometers of the race.
The front group cooperaed well and the riders were able to build a lead of nearly five minutes. Despite the early division of the field, Bora – Argon 18 was well represented in this group with Christoph Pfingsten and Daniel Schorn. Unfortunately Daniel Schorn had a mechanical and thus he fell back from the group. So, Christoph Pfingsten had to fight by himself against the favorite teams. The lead group fell further apart in the very challenging finale.
While Mateo Trentin (Etixx Quickstep) scored the win, Pfingsten finished in 23rd place.
"We didn’t expect the race to unfold like this. The wind wasn’t predicted that strong and we assumed that a small group would come to the sprint. But there were echelons with many groups from the start. As the 30 men created a gap of five minutes it was already clear that none of the teams in the field is able to catch them again. So the sprint finish, which we would have preferred, unfortunately didn’t happen today", Sport Director Andre Schulze summarizes after the last race of the season..
