With six-time champion Edvald Boasson Hagen absent due to injury, the door was open for Reidar Borgersen to reclaim the Norwegian time trial he conquered in 2012. The Team Joker rider didn't disappoint as he firmly beat the Sparebanken duo of Bjorn Tore Hoem and Andreas Vangstand into the minor positions on the podium.

Since he took his first title in 2007 Edvald Boasson Hagen has been virtually unbeatable in the Norwegian time trial championships but in 2012 he was surprisingly relegated into second by Reidar Borgersen. Last year he was back on top and Borgersen had to settle for third in his title defence.

With injury ruling out another title for Boasson Hagen, Borgersen lined up at the 2014 championships as the man to beat and he fully lived up to expectations. On the 40km course in Eidsvoll, he beat Bjorn Tore Hoem by 1.12 while Andreas Vangstad had to settle for third, one second further adrift.

Borgersen will next line up in Sunday's road race where he faces harder competition as both defending champion Thor Hushovd, an in-form Alexander Kristoff and Lars-Petter Nordhaug are expected to be at the start.
