According to reports, hotly sought-after British 21-year-old brothers Adam and Simon Yates will both join Australian WorldTour team Orica GreenEdge for the 2014 season.
The siblings were expected to join forces with British team Sky but Adam Yates has now corroborated that he and his brother will turn out for Aussie side GreenEdge saying it was "the best place to go."
"We worked it out together, we weighed up all the options and GreenEdge were the best choice," Adam Yates told Cycling Weekly. "It was after l’Avenir that we started getting contacted. We had offers from FDJ and Lampre, and Sky wanted Simon, but GreenEdge is the best place to go."
The Yates brothers laid their claim to cycling fame last month when Simon won two stages of the Tour de l'Avenir while Adam ended as runner-up in the general classification. Simon subsequently continued his excellent form as he won a hill top victory in stage six of the Tour of Britain.
Adam Yates was quite unequivocal in stating that he had deliberately snubbed Sky in order to avoid becoming a workhorse for the big shots on the Sky roster.
"It's a good setup at Orica-GreenEdge. And if I went to Sky then I'd end up working on the front like a slave, and I'm not a big fan of that!"
