Team Giant-Alpecin's Albert Timmer made the day’s break as Chad Haga took 31st on the final stage of the Critérium du Dauphiné. Christopher Froome took the double with the stage victory and the overall win.
The final stage of the Dauphiné went from Saint-Gervais Mont Blanc to the uphill finish at Modane Valfréjus. Several attacks and counter-attacks between km 4 and km 28 led to a breakaway group of 13 riders, including Time for the second time this week, and again it was Team Sky to lead the peloton.
The final escapee was caught with 2.6km to go when Christopher Froome (Team Sky) accelerated. The final two kilometers were a battle between Froome and Tejay van Garderen (BMC Racing Team) who gave his best to defend the yellow-blue jersey. At the finishing line, Froome was today’s best and scored ten seconds bonus with his stage victory. Which is also the difference in the final general classification, in the favor of Froome, who took the overall win at the Critérium du Dauphiné.
Almost 4’ behind today’s winner, Haga came in first for the team at 31st. After the stage he said: “I just wanted to see what I could do after such a heavy block of racing so I gave it all one last time, which was enough for a 31st place today. I think I can go into my break happy with what I was able to accomplish.”
Lawson Craddock is the team’s best ranked rider in the final GC at 69th.
