Russian rider Ilnur Zakarin continues his career with WorldTour Team Katusha. The agreement was signed recently between team management and rider.
Ilnur Zakarin (25) is spending his debut season in the UCI WorldTour. This year he won the final classification of the Tour de Romandie and he took a heroic victory in stage 11 of the Giro d’Italia. Yesterday Zakarin scored another strong result finishing 4th in the overall classification of the Tour de Pologne.
"I always wanted to compete at the highest level and I am happy with my first steps in the WorldTour with Team Katusha. This season I was able to get some good results, which would have been impossible to get without the team’s support. I feel very comfortable in Katusha and I am glad to continue my career in this team. I have more ambitions in cycling and I am sure I can realize them with Katusha," said Ilnur Zakarin.
"Ilnur is doing a great season. Despite his young age, he already realized some important achievements. We are trying not to push or stress Ilnur and we would like to give the rider, step by step, the possibility for a harmonic development. I am sure Ilnur has a big future in professional sports and I am happy he will continue his development in Team Katusha," commented general manager Viacheslav Ekimov.
Details on the newly signed contract will not be disclosed.
Ilnur Zakarin’s next race will be the Arctic Race of Norway from August 13th to 16th.
