Three years ago, Riccardo Zoidl signed his first contract with a WorldTour formation after a brilliant season, that included a win at the Tour of Austria. Today, the Austrian has been told that there will be no new deal with the Trek team after three seasons of loyal service. The weeks pass and Zoidl has still not found a place in the professional divisions. It seems increasingly likely that he will return to the Felbermayr-Simplon Wels team where he had his breakthrough in 2013.
This is what is suggested by Radsport-news.com which reveals that he has not received a proposal from his team to extend his contract despite his success in the queen stage of the Tour of Croatia. "The stage victory meant a lot to me because I had some problems earlier in the season," he said at the time.
It is true that Riccardo Zoidl had no luck in his time with the team. He crashed whil training in Spain during the month of December. He could start his season on time but he was hampered by the effects of the crash. In the team time trial in Croatia, he was so afraid on the slipperty roads of the team time trial that his team lost more than 2 'and he lost the overall lead. At 28, he mostly worked as a domestique but he won't do so in 2017. Instead, he is likely to be a leader in one of the two lowest divisions.
