The three-time German champion would have liked more invitations to WorldTour races than those for Flèche Wallonne and the Cyclassics in Hamburg. Wegmann & Co. were left with only a few possibilities to compete with the best.

With 54th place in the smallest of the three Ardennes classics and 104th place in Hamburg, Wegmann did not do as well as he had joped. "The opponents at Flèche Wallonne came from the Tour of the Basque Country.
