Even though the Prosecutor from CONI (the Italian National Olympic Committee) asked for suspensions for the team managers from Androni Giocattoli, Bardiani - CSF and Wilier-Southeast as well as fines for these same teams in the scandal involving riders who allegedly paid to ride for the pro teams, the Disciplinary Committee of the Italian National Federation has dismissed all charges.
As reported earlier today, CONI asked for a one-year suspension for Angelo Citracca, the Wilier manager, one year and six months for Gianni Savio, Androni Giocattoli manager, and two years for Bruno Rerverberi, the Bardiani manager. He also asked that for a 5000 € fine for each team. The case is known as "Paga per correre" which means ‘pay to ride’. It was alleged that the managers and their teams forced the riders to pay back part of their salaries to secret accounts. The procedure was not easy because there was little evidence and the rules are unclear. However, the reasons for the ruling will only be revealed later.
Pending further information, the Prosecutor from CONI has already indicated that he may appeal to the Federal Court of Appeal.
